On 16 April at about 11:30 Emergency calls came through Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (old Johannesburg General hospital) is burning.

Emergency services were on scene shortly after the call came through. They tried to contain the fire but it was stubborn, soon they asked for more help from anyone willing to assist to evacuate some of the patients close to the burning area.

We decided to assist with a lot of other volunteers. Patients were being evaluated and transported to other nearby hospitals, while the fire department struggled to get the fire under control. All off the patients where evacuated.

After a lot of attempts to get the fire under control, the heroes got it under control and the building could be evaluated for structural damage.

Water, energy drinks and food where donated from various sources to keep everyone on scene hydrated and full of energy.
